IMG 7773The new promotion program of Greek Tourism, based on a three-year strategy, presented by Tourism Minister Ms. Olga Kefalogianni at an event for the  EOT‘s
new communication strategy. The presentation was made by Panos Leivadas, the General Secretary of EOT.

Mrs. Kefalogianni featured 2013 as a year of success for Greek tourism, adding that today plays a central role in the recovery of the Greek economy. At the same time she expressed her optimism that 2014 will be a good tourist season, referring to data from the Bank of Greece.

The Tourism Minister noted that the new strategic plan for tourism is adapted to the tourist’s habits, their destination criteria, the way they‘re trying to find information, the channels they use in order to buy and organize their trip.

"The "trip advisor" and "expedia", are important allies in our effort to have a constant and serious web presence. She added that our communication is evolving in Europe, USA and we are aiming to new markets." The portal of EOT, called visitgreece.gr, plays a catalytic role to this effort, as it attracts 8.5 million users from around the world. She also said that for the promotion of Greek tourism, both the Ministry and EOT must exploit to the fullest extent Internet, digital tools and mobile technology.
In conclusion the Minister of Tourism stated that success in tourism has increased the country's obligations towards its visitors. "We have the duty to fight anything that creates negative impressions for Greece." That’s why all tourism stakeholders and the local governments should show the required responsibility and seriousness.

Mr Panos Leivadas, during his presentation, stressed that internet –technology – new media constitutes a "revolution in the global tourism market." He pointed out what steps have already done and those that are still on the way for the new markets (China, Brazil, Russia). He pointed out that the emphasis given on the new markets does not mean that efforts for traditional tourist markets will be less, as they supply large numbers of visitors to the country.

Present at the event, held at the Museum of Cycladic Art, were the General Secretaries of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Anastasios Liaskos and John Pyrgiotis, and also representatives of stakeholders of the tourism market.
