The small country towns of Kefalos and Antimachia (municipality of Herakleides) on Kos have been organising interesting carnival events for over half a century. The most known of them is called “kamouzeles” or “alafakia”. In the past, the masqueraders of Kos (“kamouzeles”) smeared their faces with black coal dust and covered their bodies with colorful woven blankets.
