For the first time in Kos Island’s sports events a European Championship took place, the "European Championship Beach Volley U20" with athletes of 24 countries under 20 years old. The games were held in Kos Marina in a specially designed area in accordance with the requirements of the European Volleyball Federation suitable and for the athletic part and for the promotion of the Island.

Hostess were the Municipal Sports organization of KosIsland in cooperation with Tritons and the Hellenic Speed Club and the races were in 2 phases. On Saturday 18 July 2009 at 11.00 was the first phase by the categories: Racing, Stock, Novic and Pro Ski. On Sunday 19 July 2009 was the second and last phase by the Categories:  Racing, Stock, Novic and Free Style.
